Improve your English or French language skills

The New Brunswick Employment Language Training (NBELT) program offers language training as well as an orientation to the Canadian labour market, interview and employment preparation, job search assistance and work placements to better prepare you for entering New Brunswick’s job market.

The NBELT program is offered at different times of the year in Fredericton, Moncton and Saint John, and as a multilevel, part-time class in Florenceville. The program consists of 16 weeks of enhanced language training followed by up to 26-week, paid work placements.

Other ways to improve your qualifications for work:

  • get more training or education. Refer to, Studying to find out more about education, job training and apprenticeships;
  • join a professional organization. Check the local telephone listings to find a professional organization for your occupation or trade and ask about international qualification assessment services;
  • re-certify or re-register. You may need to take a certification or registration exam to qualify for professional or trade certification in New Brunswick. Refer to, Credential recognition; and
  • as a permanent resident, you may volunteer in your field of work. You will gain work experience, a chance to improve your language skills and access to people who may provide references and help in your work search.
