Be an accredited professional in New Brunswick
In New Brunswick, some jobs are regulated by the government to enforce and ensure standards that will protect public health and safety. Nurses, doctors, teachers and electricians are examples of regulated professions. If you want to work in a regulated field, you will need to be licensed by national and/or provincial regulatory bodies for that profession.
In other professions, you will be able to work in your field, but will not be able to use the professional designation until you are assessed and registered with the profession’s national and/or provincial body.
Your occupation may be called something different in New Brunswick, or you may need a different license to practice. Accreditation requirements may also differ between provinces in Canada.
One of the first steps in becoming accredited in a regulated occupation is obtaining a Canadian equivalency for the training and experience you earned outside Canada or New Brunswick. For an overview of accreditation services and programs, visit the Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials, Human Resources and Skills Development Canada website, and the Foreign Credentials Referral Service.
The Working in Canada Tool can help you find the name and a description of your occupation in Canada. This Tool will tell you what the main tasks of your occupation are and what skills are needed.
