Joining your community in welcoming newcomers

A great way to connect with your own community is to help newcomers appreciate all it has to offer. Join us in helping newcomers feel at home in New Brunswick.

Integration-Net is a Canadian initiative to help communities attract and retain new people. It offers an exchange of information and ideas about best practices on integration strategies and programs. The Tool Box of Ideas for Smaller Centres provides useful statistics, information, checklists and reference sources for developing a population strategy and setting up community organizations. You can also read the success stories of New Brunswick multicultural organizations.

Volunteering your time and experience will quickly connect you to newcomers and them to their new home. You will benefit from an exposure to new cultures, ideas, friends and skills. Contact an immigrant-serving organization in your area, or review Canada’s Host Volunteer Program, which matches volunteers with newcomers.

The Immigrant Settlement Support Funding program assists non-profits in welcoming newcomers and helping them settle and integrate into New Brunswick communities.

Your welcoming committee may be interested in setting up an incorporated not-for-profit organization. This would require registering your organization by completing an application to the New Brunswick Corporate Registry. The application and information guidelines can be found at Service New Brunswick - Corporate Registry.
