Health care

Canada’s universal health care system is publicly funded and provides access to comprehensive coverage for medically necessary hospital and physician services.

In New Brunswick, you must have a valid
Medicare card to receive coverage for eligible health care services. This card must be presented to the physician and/or hospital each time you require insured hospital or physician services.

To learn more about health care in New Brunswick, please visit the Department of Health website. The website offers detailed information and links related to our Regional Health Authorities, New Brunswick Medicare and much more.

The website also outlines our provincial health plan (2008-2012) which includes over 100 separate initiatives to further advance our health-care system, including initiatives to enhance access to health services, improve efficiency and harness innovation.
